A statewide crackdown by drug enforcement agents has netted two First Coast doctors among a dozen people facing criminal charges.  Under arrest are Dr. Susan Yandel of Jacksonville and Dr. Sanjay Trivedi of St. Johns County.

The two local physicians were caught up in the undercover operation agents called Pill Street Blues.  Both suspects have been associated with the Jacksonville Back & Spine Institute on University Boulevard just north of Arlington.  That location was among a dozen sites from Miami to Pensacola raided by authorities armed with warrants this morning.

Agents say the two local physicians are part of a drug trafficking ring headed by two South Florida firefighters who consulted with the doctors on how not to get caught illegally dispensing narcotics.

A DEA news release says the raid was the culmination of two-years of undercover work that targeted so-called pill mill operations.   Dr. Yandle reportedly dispensed more than half-a-million Oxycodone tablets in just nine months that Dr. Tivedi is said to have authorized nearly 100,000 more of the narcotic painkillers to patients who should not have received them, according to charges filed against them.

Authorities also say they have seized more than a million dollars in nearly five dozen bank accounts linked to suspects statewide.
