PALATKA, Fla. -- Two Putnam County volunteer firefighters are behind bars after allegedly taking items from a partially burned home.
According to a news release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, Austin Tyler Jackson, 23, and Amanda Kay Jackson, 29, were questioned in relation to the theft of a rifle, electronics and other items from a Locust Avenue residence that partially burned on Sunday June 17, 2012. Austin and Amanda are married, the news release details.
Both Austin and Amanda responded to the fire as members of Volunteer Station 22 located in Francis.
The crime allegedly occurred the following day when Austin and Amanda reportedly returned to the residence under the pretext of conducting "Fire Department" business.
Following further investigation, both Austin and Amanda were arrested and transported to the Putnam County Jail where they were booked on charges of armed burglary and grand theft.
Both are currently being held on a bond of $6,000 each.
