Lifeguards and paddleboarders made waves Saturday while competing in the 3rd annual Jax Beach Paddle Challenge.
The paddle challenge was held where Beach Boulevard meets the sand at the Jacksonville Beach lifeguard station. It also included six different paddle events: six mile surf ski, six mile surf dory, six mile stand up paddle, 6-mile paddleboard, two mile longboard and 1.5-mile short board contests.
Several contestants made headlines on June 13 after paddleboarding the entire St. Johns River on a trip they are called "Stand Up For The St. Johns." Their aim is to raise awareness of their sport and the health of the St. Johns River.
