JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man accused of stabbing his grandfather went before a judge Sunday morning.

Alfred Johnson, 26, was charged with attempted felony murder and theft of a motor vehicle. His bond was set at more than $500,000 at his first appearance Sunday just after 10 a.m.

According to police, Johnson stabbed his grandfather, 55-year-old Reginald Lavern Adams, once in the stomach after an argument. Adams underwent surgery at Shands Hospital for life-threatening injuries from the attack.

Sgt. Shawn Coursey, a homicide detective with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said it happened at the grandfather's home in the 1500 block of West 35th Street at 7:20 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators said Johnson stole his grandfather's car and left the scene.

Coursey said Johnson has a lengthy criminal record, including auto theft charges.
