JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 19-year-old was killed and two others were injured in a crash on Interstate 95 after a deer ran into the roadway.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol crash report, a red Chevy pickup driven by 20-year-old Blaine Swain, was traveling south on I-95 north of Pecan Park Road at 12:50 a.m.
A deer got in the path of the pickup and FHP said Swain took evasive action to avoid hitting the animal and steered right. The truck traveled onto the shoulder and struck the guardrail before hitting a head sign support pole.
Swain is in serious condition at Shands Jacksonville. Two passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. 19-year-old Daniel E. Abell was killed in the crash and 14-year-old Dakota McLeod is in critical condition at Shands.
No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, according to FHP.
