JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Homicide detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office have identified a woman found dead on Broadway Avenue.
The body of Traci Wright, 42, was found on the side of the road around 5 a.m. Monday by a JTA bus driver.
Foul play is suspected in Wright's death and is being treated as a homicide case, according to a release from JSO Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda.
Sergeant Short with the JSO initially said there was trauma around the woman's head, indicating some sort of injury, but he would not say what caused the injury.
According to our news partner The Florida Times-Union, a neighbor they interviewed said a woman had been shot in the head.
The man, who asked not to be identified, told the T-U that his girlfriend was on her way to work when she called him to pick her up after the bus was delayed.
The man said once he arrived to pick his girlfriend up, he saw the woman laying in the road.
Neighbors reported having heard gunshots around 2 Monday morning.
JSO has no suspect information at this time and detectives are asking for assistance from the community.
