JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville police are investigating a serious accident at Myrtle and Bay streets early Sunday morning that sent two drivers to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Traffic homicide detective Brian Blaquiere says the accident happened at 3:41 in the morning. One driver was westbound on Bay and the other southbound on Myrtle when they collided in the intersection.
Police are trying to determine who may have run the red light at the intersection. Police say alcohol and high speed may have been involved. The two drivers were taken to Shands Hospital.
The accident left Bay Street west of the convention center closed for several hours as well as Myrtle Street at the intersection. Tow trucks did not begin towing the cars away until after 8am.
