JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man was found dead in a house this morning, and police are investigating his death as foul play until they can prove that it is not.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrived at a home in the 1800 block of Bennett Street around 10:20 a.m., according to Sgt. Shawn Coarsey of the JSO homicide division.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was also at the house and pronounced the man dead.
Family members came over to the house, as they had not heard from the man in several days. They entered the house, found the man and called the police and fire departments, Coarsey said.
The man has been known to take legal and illegal drugs in the past, Coarsey said.
"We're going to hold the scene until the autopsy tells us what the cause of death is and at that point we'll know a little more," Coarsey said.
There were no signs of forced entry and nothing of value appeared to be taken, Coarsey said, but the house is torn up. The deceased man's family said he has done that in the past.
JSO spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda said they expect to have more information in the man's death investigation tomorrow.
