JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man is in custody after leading several police agencies on a chase on Jacksonville's Westside Tuesday afternoon, according to U. S. Marshals.
Deputy U. S. Marshal Sly Del Rosario said Marshals found a fugitive they were looking for at the Snak Shak store in the 3100 block of Lenox Ave. Tuesday afternoon.
The Marshals were in a marked vehicle with the lights activated, but Rosario said that didn't stop the suspect from trying to ram his way around the law enforcement vehicles that were blocking him in.
After hitting the police cars several times, the suspect's vehicle eventually hit a tree stump and flipped over, Rosario said.
That still didn't stop the suspect, whom Rosario said jumped over a female passenger and tried to run away.
Marshals and a JSO canine unit chased the suspect and eventually arrested him.
So far the suspect has not been identified.
The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene to investigate what was reported to them as two separate crashes at the Snak Shak location, FHP Capt. Gaston said. Gaston stated that the crash resulted from a case that JSO was investigating with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Officer Shannon Hartley, a public information officer for JSO, said the incident is part of an ongoing investigation and at this point his agency isn't releasing any details.
First Coast News left messages for public information officers with FDLE but so far we haven't heard back from them.
