CLAY COUNTY, Fla. - Some people who live near Cecil Field in Orange Park said for the past three days, they have noticed a strong "cow manure" odor in their neighborhood.
We called Clay County. They say they have gotten one complaint about the smell. They don't yet know where it's coming from, but they are out looking for the source.
Holly Younce likes to spend these warm spring days outside with her three kids. But over the last few days, she said that's been nearly impossible. "It smells like manure," Younce said. That's probably the best way to describe the powerful stench that's been saturating this area. She added, "It's a bad smell, it's really strong."
That smell has become the talk of the neighborhood, changing the way some people live. Bethany Amberson said her kids can't take it anymore. She said, "My kids gross out and act like they can't even walk out of the garage and get in the car.
Younce agreed, "Oh definitely with the kids, they don't even want to play outside because it smells so bad."
Some people say they smell it in the morning, others say they smell it in the evening. We spent the day in the area. We started to smell it in the afternoon. For now, the county is still trying to track the source of the smell.
