WAYCROSS, Ga. -- A police-involved shooting took place at the Garlington Heights apartment complex Thursday afternoon, according to Lt. Hampton of the Waycross Police Department.
Police are not currently releasing the name of the man shot, nor of the officer or officers involved in the shooting.
Waycross officers asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate the shooting, according to GBI Special Agent Mansfield.
The call came in to 911 around 12:30 p.m. at the complex located in the 300 block of Garlington Avenue in Waycross, Mansfield said.
First Coast News talked to the family of the man shot. They told us the incident was a case of mistaken identity, and said the man who was shot wasn't the man police were looking for.
