FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- The body of a teenage swimmer who went under in rough surf Friday was found early Sunday morning.
Police say the body of 16-year-old Dylan McCormick of Yulee was found near Fort Clinch State Park on the north end of Amelia Island.
The search for McCormick started Friday when police responded to a call of a swimmer in distress. Police say John Kirkland saw a strong rip current pulling Dylan away from shore. Kirkland pushed his own child to shore.
Kirkland told police he was able to grab McCormick at one point, but was unable to hold onto him. He told police he saw McCormick go under water.
Police say Dylan McCormick was a ninth-grader at Yulee High School.
