JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is looking for a dangerous person after a police-involved shooting at Emerson Inn, 3558 Phillips Hwy. However, they have not yet released a description or name of that individual.

JSO Chief of Investigations Tom Hackney told First Coast News four officers responded to shots fired at the motel late Monday afternoon after a fight between two men. When they got to the scene, they saw one man on the balcony with a weapon. They ordered him to drop it repeatedly. When he did not, Hackney said Officer Matt Edwards fired five times and hit one of the men at least twice.

That person was transported to the hospital in serious condition. They are expected to release his identity Tuesday.

The other suspect, believed to be the brother of the person who was shot, fled the scene.

Hackney said Officer Edwards will be placed on administrative leave per JSO's protocol.
