Lake City, Fla. -- A 49-year old man was arrested by Lake City police after he fired a shot at officers pursuing him.
At 2:39 a.m. the Lake City Police Department received a call from a resident who reported they heard gunshots in the area of the 700 block NW Alma Avenue. Minutes later, another resident called who also reported they heard gunshots in the area of the 700 block of Dixie Avenue.
When officers arrived on the scene, they were flagged down by another complainant who reported a black male riding a bicycle was discharging a firearm in the area. Officers immediately began a search of the area.
Police located a man who was riding a bicycle and matched the description that was given to them. When officers initiated contact with the subject, he eluded the officers by riding away on his bicycle. The officers saw the subject as he jumped off his bike.
When the subject jumped off his bike, he fired a shot at Officer Brian Bruenger. Officer Joseph Anthony and Officer Michael Delcastillo returned fire at the subject.
The subject ran through a wooded area behind the residential homes of the 800 block of Northwest Alma Avenue. The subject was apprehended by Officer Tammy Cox as he exited the wooded area in the 800 block of Dixie Avenue. A semi-automatic pistol was recovered in the wooded area where the subject had exited.
No one was injured during the exchange of gunfire.
The manwas identified as Roosevelt Daies, 49. Dais was charged with Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest with Violence, Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to Columbia County Jail.
