PALATKA, Fla. -- A motorcyclist has died following a collision with a child, who was critically injured in the crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, the collision happened Monday evening at 6 p.m. at the intersection of 18th and Washington streets.
Investigators believe 40-year-old Elijah Hayward was westbound on Washington when he collided with a 6-year-old boy riding a bicycle northbound on 18th.
Neither person was wearing a helmet, according to the report, and both were ejected from their rides.
Hayward was taken to Putnam Medical Center, where the report indicates he died.
The child was taken to Shands Gainesville for treatment of critical injuries.
