PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- A child was killed at a mud bogging event in Putnam County late Saturday afternoon.
According to Hancel Woods with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, a three-year-old child was run over by a vehicle at the Hog Waller, an outdoor adventure park.
The call came into the Florida Highway Patrol just after 5 p.m., according to the FHP website.
Woods said the child was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center and died due to his injuries.
Skeet Alford who runs the Hog Waller Mud Bog and ATV park said the child was a little boy. He said a woman -- believed to be a relative -- ran over the child. Alford said she was not driving a mud truck, but a "family vehicle."
The Hog Waller is located on County Road 310 south of Palatka.
A large two-day New Year's event is scheduled for the weekend, and Alford said the event will continue.
Alford says his heart goes out the the family who lost their little boy and said as of 8 p.m., investigators were still on the scene.
