FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honored First Coast News with 5 Regional Emmy Awards Saturday night in Ft. Lauderdale.
First Coast News took home statues in the following categories:
News Excellence- Overall news excellence for judging period
Continuing Coverage - "City of Denial," series; chief investigative reporter Jackie Barnard and photojournalist Justin Patterson. The stories investigated the City of Jacksonville's actions in workman's compensation cases.
Feature News Report/Light Series- "Jax to Jax;" meteorologist/reporter Lewis Turner and photojournalist Justin Patterson. The series was based on a trip around the Southeast to 5 different Jacksonvilles, spending more than a week on the road finding interesting stories.
Human Interest/News - "Tyler Southern Hero Wedding;" news anchor Jeannie Blaylock and photojournalist Bo Harris. The series was a story of perseverance, showcasing Tyler Southern's recovery from injuries he suffered in Afghanistan.
On-Camera Talent/Performer-Narrator- This award recognizes Casey Black's work as co-host for "First Coast Living" which airs each weekday at 11 a.m. on NBC-12.
The contest period was July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.
The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences offers the Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards to television markets in Florida; Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles and New Orleans, La.; Mobile, Ala.; Thomasville, Ga.; and Puerto Rico.
