Fort Collins, CO (Sports Network) - Wes Eikmeier scored 18 points, leading
five players in double figures, as the Colorado State Rams posted an 85-75 win
over the Roadrunners of Texas-San Antonio as part of the consolation round of
the NIT Season Tip-Off at Moby Arena.
Dwight Smith came off the bench to tally 16 points in just 19 minutes of the
Rams (3-2), followed by Dorian Green and Kaipo Sabas with 15 points apiece,
the latter converting all but one of his six three-point attempts on the
night. Will Bell was responsible for 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds
in a reserve role.
The Roadrunners (2-2) were paced by Kannon Burrage who accounted for a game-
high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 at the
free-throw line. Before fouling out Michael Hale chipped in 14 points,
followed by Sei Paye with 10 points, five assists and three steals in the
setback.
UTSA moved out to a 5-0 lead to start the meeting and led by as many as seven
in the first half, but CSU closed strong in order hold a 43-42 edge at the
break. The Roadrunners trailed despite shooting an impressive 55.2 percent
from the floor in the half.
After the intermission UTSA made a total of just nine field goals, while the
Rams made seven baskets from three-point range alone in the period, en route
to the double-digit win.
In addition to shooting 11-of-22 beyond the arc on the night, Colorado State
also outscored the visitors at the charity stripe, 24-15.
