ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- It's been three months since 35-year-old Nicole Bush was found dead in her Fruit Cove home - brutally attacked.
Nicole Bush's family is pleased to hear someone has been arrested for her murder; her estranged husband, Sean Bush was arrested Friday.
"I was relieved. I was relieved," said Kimberly Gregory, Bush's older sister.
She's not surprised to hear 42-year-old Sean Bush was arrested. "My sister confided in me -- three years into their marriage -- that he had a violent past," Gregory explained. "She told me he's a changed man, that he loved her and that she didn't have to worry about that."
Before the couple met, Sean Bush was arrested for attempted murder in 2001 in New Jersey. According to prosecutors, he pleaded to lesser charges of aggravated assault and a weapons offense. He was sentenced to four years probation.
In 2002, Nicole and Sean Bush married. "I was concerned for her safety but years and time went on, and I never witnessed violence firsthand from him towards her," said Gregory.
According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, DNA evidence taken from the crime scene in May connected Sean Bush to Nicole Bush's murder.
SJCSO Sgt. Chuck Mulligan said she was shot, stabbed, and suffered blunt force trauma. "But we still believe there are folks who have information," Mulligan said. "We ask them to contact our detectives. They'd love to talk with them to see if there's an angle or a piece to the puzzle that has not been put into place."
The Bushes' sons, now 10 and 6, live in Tampa with Gregory, who said her sister adored them.
"These boys - their life will be forever changed."
