JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has been arrested, accused of lewd and lascivious molestation and capital sexual battery.
Officer Richard Louis Cannon, 47, was arrested this morning, according to jail records Friday.
The 25-year veteran marine patrol officer had been investigated by the Department Integrity Unit and was charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious molestation involving a victim 12 or younger, and another two counts involving a victim older than 12 but younger than 16.
The sexual battery charge, according to police reports, involves a child less than 12 years-old.
Cannon resigned this morning, said JSO Undersheriff Dwain Senterfitt.
"We don't tolerate this kind of behavior. If it is criminal in nature we make arrests," Senterfitt said.
Senterfitt would not discuss the victims, but a JSO report said there are two. The State Attorney's Office had no comment.
Currently, there is no pending court date for the officer. According to JSO public information officer Melissa Bujeda, Cannon is still in jail.
No one answered the phone at the Cannon home on Friday afternoon.
