ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident on Interstate 95 South between International Golf Parkway and State Road 16.
Lt. Bill Leeper with FHP said a 74-year-old man was driving a Ford Explorer in the southbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 321, when his truck drifted off the roadway.
His vehicle overturned several times and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened just before 5 p.m. and two southbound lanes were blocked for nearly 30 minutes. All lanes have since been reopened.
Southbound drivers are still seeing heavy backup. US-1 is the best alternate route to avoid delays.
