JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 2-year-old boy who drowned Tuesday afternoon in his family's pool in Arlington has been identified.
Bryce Bostick, 2, was found in the family's pool at a home in the 6300 block of Regiment Drive. Police said the boy's older brother went to look for him, and found him floating face down in the family's pool, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report.
He put Bryce on the ground and began CPR. A neighbor and the first responding police officer also did CPR until Jacksonville Fire and Rescue arrived and took over.
Bryce had been inside the home in a bedroom with another brother, when the relative left to use a bathroom. When he returned, Bryce was gone; the family looked for him and found him in the pool.
"That's bad. That's terrible. That's a terrible feeling to have to bury a child," said neighbor Dennis Smith. "I'll pray for them. That's all you can do now."
Officers said Wednesday evening that family members told them the young boy was only missing for three or four minutes before they went to look for him.
An adult caregiver, who is related to the family, was watching the six to eight children that were in the home at the time of the drowning.
Bryce's parents were at work, the police report said.
"Swimming pools are dangerous. Dangerous. That's terrible," said Smith.
Access to the pool was through a back door leading to a back porch. The porch was secured by a small latch leading to the back yard, the report said. The above ground pool was 25 yards feet from the door.
The Florida State Legislature passed home safety regulations for pools in 2000, citing drowning as the leading cause of death of young children in the state.
