ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla -- A bar owner in Palatka got his big beer bottle back after it was stolen by bandmembers who had just played at his club.
St. Johns County deputies pulled over a small car shortly after 2 a.m. this morning with a large 12 foot vinyl beer bottle tied to the roof. Two men and a woman were inside the car. They had to crawl out through the windows of the car as the ropes holding the bottle were tied to the door handles.
John Lyon, owner of Steamboat Willie's in Palatka, said the three took the " Bud" prop after finishing playing their music. A friend helped catch the thieves.
"I had a friend who saw them taking off with the bottle, so he told me and we followed them. We got a tag number. We called the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. They weren't able to stop them before they crossed the county line. They called the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and they caught them for us."
The two men unloaded the big bottle and carried it to Lyon's truck. He did not press charges since he got his big beer bottle back.
