Artis Gilmore was on hand in Houston today for the announcement that he will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in August.
Jacksonville University legend Artis Gilmore is finally getting his due as he will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in August.
The announcement was made this afternoon in Houston, the site of tonight's men's college basketball national championship game. Gilmore is in Houston for this announcement.
As a two-time All-American at JU, Gilmore led the Dolphins to the National Championship Game in 1970 against UCLA.
During his 18-year professional career, Artis was a 5-time All-Star in the ABA and a 6-time All-Star in the NBA.
To this day, Gilmore, a 7'2" former center, is still the NBA's career leader in field goal percentage (.599). Before today's announcement, he was the only former player in the top 35 of professional basketball's (ABA and NBA combined) career scoring list who is not in the Hall of Fame.
