BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- An "unfortunate situation" that sent a teen to jail for bringing weapons to school didn't prevent him from receiving his diploma a day later.

Tyler Heinze, 18, was arrested for bringing two knives and high-potency pepper spray to Glynn Academy March 23.

The following day, having accumulated enough credits and passing the graduation test, Heinze was awarded his diploma, though he won't be allowed to walk with his class.

School board officials today said he's a good student and the situation is unfortunate.

He faces two felony counts of possession of a weapon on school property.

Heinze was unavailable for comment.

He is the younger brother of Guy Heinze, Jr., who is awaiting trial for the beating deaths of eight people, including his father.
