JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A First Coast mother of four is using her degree in fine arts to help other Jacksonville area families remodel their home on a budget.
The most affordable way to change a room, Pam Sather says, is by painting it.
"The easiest way was through paint and I kept finding over and over again rooms change the most when the color or the neutral changes."
Sather, is a self-proclaimed color expert. She owns her own business called 'I Pick Paint Color.'
A typical can of paint costs between $25 to $50, but Sather says there are three major steps to follow.
Step 1: Do a little soul searching
"Find out who you are first. See what's existing what's already in your home and instead of working against it, work with it," said Sather.
Step 2: Bring the paint swatches home
Sather says don't rely on the industrial florescent lights in the store.
"You have to bring it back into your home there is so much light so many windows in a home it really shows what you're actually going to get," she said.
Step 3: Mute the color.
Sather says it's natural to pick your favorite color, but often that's too bright or too bold on the wall.
Here are three things you can do to give your home a simple makeover without using paint:
- Use bead boards (adds a custom look to home)
- Use hooks in the bathroom (makes room look larger)
- Clean up (less is more)
