LOS ANGELES -- Lady Gaga's meat dress was a commentary about being treated like meat, not eating it.
One of the outfits Lady Gaga wore to the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday was a dress, hat and shoes that looked like they were made of red meat.
She tells Ellen DeGeneres on her show that it was tied to her protests against the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy toward gay soldiers.
Lady Gaga says it was not meant to disrespect vegans or vegetarians, but to say, "If we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones." DeGeneres responded by giving Lady Gaga a bikini made of vegetables.
