JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jurors have convicted a man of shooting and killing his estranged wife's boyfriend, and attempting to kill his then-wife.
According to our news partner the Florida Times-Union, jurors found Jeffery Washington, 45, guilty of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a weapon and burglary armed with a weapon.
Washington faces the death penalty, the Times-Union reported, and will have a hearing on Aug. 12.
Police said Washington broke into Dorothy Washington's Saddle Creek Apartments home in May 2009, shot her ex-boyfriend, Michael Brooks, 29, and then went after her.
They said Dorothy Washington hid in a bedroom with the couple's two children, and pulled her own gun on Jeffery Washington after he found them there.
Dorothy Washington shot him in the stomach before he took the gun from her, pistol-whipped her, and drove away in a White Volkswagen Jetta that he later ditched.
Jeffery Washington turned himself in to police two days later.
