DOUGLAS, Ga. -- NBC News has confirmed that the body of missing Lynn University student Courtney Hayes has been found in the wreckage of the Hotel Montana in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.
However, our news partner, the Florida Times-Union spoke with Hayes' grandmother who said the family has not received conformation on the whereabouts of Courtney.
Hayes' uncle, Dewey Hayes says Courtney's body has not been identified and he is communicating directly with Courtney's parents who are now in South Florida.
Friends and othe people gathered in downtown Douglas Sunday night for a small vigil for Courtney.
The town is covered with yellow ribbons for her.
Courtney Hayes was among a group of 13 students from Lynn University in south Florida who traveled to Haiti on a humanitarian mission. Eight students who were outside of the Hotel Montana when the earthquake struck have returned to the United States.
Her family in south Georgia was previously told their daughter was alive, but that was then found to be a mistake and she was still missing.
