Erich Spivey is proud to return home and report for First Coast News.
Erich career-shadowed a crew at WTLV-12 when he was a student at Lakeside Junior High School.
He graduated from Orange Park High School and the University of Florida, earning degrees in Telecommunication News and Criminology.
Erich reports primarily for "Good Morning Jacksonville," but his work appears during other newscasts throughout the day and he occasionally fills-in on the anchor desk.
He also contributes stories to ABC News, NBC News, CNN and MSNBC, and reports live on breaking news events for Gannett stations across the country.
Since joining First Coast News, Erich has covered major stories live across Florida, including the final days of NASA's Space Shuttle program in Cape Canaveral, coach Bobby Bowden's retirement in Tallahassee and a tropical storm in Panama City.
He also was the first to report oil washing ashore on Florida's beaches, during two weeks of coverage from Pensacola Beach during the Gulf oil spill.
Erich returned home to the First Coast after working two years at WFMY News 2, the Gannett station in Greensboro, North Carolina.
He covered several major stories during his time there, including the Virginia Tech shootings and the Rev. Jerry Falwell's funeral.
Before Greensboro, Erich worked at WRDW News 12, the CBS affiliate in Augusta, Georgia. In Augusta, he was the first reporter filing live reports after a train crash in Graniteville, South Carolina, which led to 15 hours of continuous live, award-winning reporting.
He also reported from New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and from Wauchula, Florida, after Hurricane Charley.
He started his career at WVII-TV in Bangor, Maine.
He also worked as a newspaper reporter for the Clay County Leader and The Gainesville Sun.
