By Kyle Meenan First Coast News JACKSONVILLE, FL -- JSO traffic officers arrested an off-duty officer on DUI charges for the second time in three years. JSO Officer David Escobar was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with DUI and careless driving. Escobar was not in his patrol vehicle at the time, though he was in possession of a glock handgun with two magazines and 20 rounds of live ammunition. According to his arrest report, fellow officers say Escobar was weaving in traffic on Beach Boulevard early Wednesday morning, and driving several miles per hour below the posted speed limit. When they pulled him over they say his eyes were watery and bloodshot and they could smell alcohol on his breath. Escobar, who is paid $57,900 a year, refused a field sobriety test, not once, but twice, according to his arrest report. This is the second DUI episode for Escobar in the past three years. in July of 2005, JSO says he crashed his motorcycle with a blood alcohol level of point-121. Escobar was reassigned to desk duty, and the State Attorney's office later dropped the DUI charge to reckless driving. Aside from the civil charges, The sheriffs office is expected to conduct its own internal affairs probe into this second DUI arrest of Officer Escobar. They will determine what, if any impact it will have on his employment with JSO.
