VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -- There were three shark bites off of the New Smyrna jetty, Sunday.
The first of the attacks occurred at around 10:40 a.m. according to the Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue. A 43-year-old man from Longwood was bit on the lower leg area while surfing. The bite caused "significant lacerations" but he was transported to a hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The second bite occurred at around 11 a.m., a 36-year-old male from Miami was bitten was both hands while surfing, he was transported with non life threatening injuries as well.
The third and final attack occurred at around 1 p.m., a 16-year-old boy from New Smyrna was bitten while surfing, causing minor lacerations to his inner thigh. He was not taken to a hospital.
The advice from the Volusia Beach and Safety Ocean Rescue is to always swim in front of a lifeguard.
