General Motors has been relatively quiet on the pick-up and SUV front since going through bankruptcy but that's about to change.

General Motors is calling its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra corporate twins "all new." The big story is three new EcoTec3 engine choices, a V-6 and two V-8s, that GM says were engineered specifically for use in full-size trucks.
All three use direct fuel injection, cylinder deactivation and continuously variable valve timing to boost fuel economy, although EPA estimates aren't available yet.
The engine options include a 4.3L V-6 that will have the torque needed to power a crew cab pickup and tow a substantial trailer, as well as a new 5.3L V-8 designed for more power, more torque and better efficiency than the current version. Also available will be a new 6.2L V-8.
Outside the new front end gets improved sealing for more efficient cooling, while the roof and tailgate spoiler design allows for less drag. GM also says the cab is quieter thanks to new inlaid doors.
The interior has also been overhauled with GM's MyLink multimedia system that includes voice recognition and enough ports and power outlets to support multiple devices.
Pick-ups make up a big slice of GM's business. "We've seen an explosive growth in crew cabs. They've gone from zero to more than 60 percent of the market in ten years," said GM North America President Mark Ruess at the Thursday's unveiling.
"The 2014 GMC Sierra offers our customers things no other pickup truck has, like projector headlamps, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and the safety alert seat," said Ruess.
The 2014 Silverado and Sierra 1500 crew cab goes into production in the spring, with other cab styles following later in the year. Pricing and dealership delivery dates haven't been announced yet.
Ruess said all-new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize trucks are also on the way.
