NEW YORK (AP) - Monday brought the first day of trading for the third quarter, with a mixed showing.
The Dow fell 9 points, or 0.1 percent, to 12,871. The S&P 500 added 3 points, or 0.3 percent, to 1,366. The Nasdaq composite index rose 16 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,951.23.
For the year so far, the key averages are up 5 to 13 percent.
