Atlanta-based SunTrust Bank announced Thursday it is raising its checking account and overdraft fees.

For its regular checking account customers, the minimum daily balance requirement for waiving the $7 monthly maintenance fee will move from $500 to $1,500, according to SunTrust spokesman Hugh Suhr.

SunTrust has at least ten branches in the greater Jacksonville area.

The waiver of the SunTrust fee for four non-SunTrust ATM transactions per month will be discontinued. Reimbursement of up to $10 for surcharge fees from the ATM owner of non-SunTrust ATMs will be discontinued.

The monthly maintenance fee will also continue to be waived with a monthly direct deposit of at least $100. All overdrafts will incur a $36 fee if the client has opted for overdraft coverage.

Previously the first overdraft was $25 with each subsequent overdraft charged at $36. For student checking all overdrafts will incur a $36 fee if the client has opted into having overdraft coverage.
