JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Jacksonville Armada has opened an internal investigation Friday after a woman posted to Facebook saying that an Armada player sexually assaulted her around this time last year.

The woman said in Facebook post that she waited this long to say anything about the alleged assault because she did not want to deal with what she perceived might be immense blow back.

According to her post, she met a player and spoke with him multiple times. He allegedly invited her to her hotel room where she say the assault happened.

A spokesperson for the organization said that the soccer club is not aware of the timing of the incident and has not notified law enforcement. The post was brought to their attention about 10:30 a.m., the spokesperson said.

The post was put on Facebook about 1 a.m. on Friday. The soccer club issued a statement 14 hours later:

"Our club has come across an allegation on Facebook posted early this morning from a female stating she had been sexually assaulted at this time last year by a player on our club's roster. We take this piece of information seriously and are launching an immediate internal investigation. We hold everyone in our organization accountable to the highest standard of character. Our club will have no further comment on this situation until this investigation concludes."
