The Jaguars have won the last two meetings against the Cleveland Browns.
Jacksonville's last win over Cleveland was the first victory of the 2014 season. It was the first career win for quarterback Blake Bortles, wide receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns and linebacker Telvin Smith.
The 24-6 victory was an NFL coming out party for Smith.
He produced the first sack, first interception and first forced fumble of his career during that game in October 2014.
The Browns came into town with a 3-2 record while the Jaguars were a miserable 0-6. Jacksonville eventually found a way to take the wind out of the Browns' sails after Cleveland started the game with a 6-0 lead.
Smith was a standout in the win but he still feels like he could have done more in the game.
"I got caught by an offensive line [on the interception] and fumbled [the ball] out of bounds," Smith said, reflecting on the game.
"I had a pretty good game that year but again, all I think about is that I dropped [another interception] wide-open that was thrown to me in that game. Totally different [teams], totally different [Browns quarterback] and things like that, so we're going to see what happens [Sunday]."
Current Jaguars starting free safety Tashaun Gipson played in the same role for the Browns at the time. While Cleveland lost, Gipson had a very pretty strong day, picking off Bortles twice.
"Blake gifted me [an interception] and then there was another play against Denard Robinson on a slant route," Gipson said.
Now on the opposite side of the track, Gipson is hoping to keep the production alive against his former team.
"Hopefully, I reverse that mojo and I get two [interceptions] when I go up there," Gipson said. "That's the plan."
The Browns currently have a 0-9 record. Still, Gipson said the Browns have talent, especially on defense.
The Jaguars won't overlook the winless group.
"Those guys have good guys on that team," Gipson said. "It's never been [about a lack of talent]. People look at the record and you look at it and say there's just a bunch of no-good football players but when you look at [the roster] there's always good guys on there."
