Athlete of the Week: Christian Carlyle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Christian Carlyle has the Bishop Kenny Crusaders back in the FHSAA boys basketball final four for the first time since 2013.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Christian Carlyle has the Bishop Kenny Crusaders back in the FHSAA boys basketball final four for the first time since 2013.

The Crusaders will face the same team, Jesuit that eliminated Bishop Kenny down in Lakeland in 2013. Carlyle is one of the best players not only on the First Coast but in the entire state.

Carlyle averages 24 points and he’ll be taking his talents to Florida Gulf Coast University on a hoops scholarship.

His teammates say he’s no doubt the leader of his team but Carlyle is one of the most selfless people you could ever meet.

Bishop Kenny head coach Jerry Buckley says despite Carlyle being so talented, he’s not arrogant, selfish and is just one of the guys.

Carlyle says his team has been motivated by two things this postseason; the fear of losing and wanting to finish the goal and win it all after being eliminated by Palatka in the quarterfinals last season.

Bishop Kenny’s Christian Carlyle is our “Athlete of the Week."

Bishop Kenny will face Jesuit Thursday at 1 p.m. in Lakeland. The winner will advance to the 5A State Championship game.

If BK can win the state title, it will be the school’s first boys basketball state championship since 1957.
