At least 1 dead, 1 injured in crash involving a train in Green Cove Springs

One person has died and another person was injured following a crash involving a train in Clay County Thursday night.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the scene of the crash in Green Cove Springs near 900 Cooks Lane around 7:14 p.m.

FHP said two men were riding in a pick-up truck. A witness told FHP that the driver of the truck tried going around the barriers and that's when an Amtrak train hit it. Caleb Osborne, 38, was killed and 41-year-old Richard Tillman was transported to Orange Park Medical Center in critical condition.

The train enroute from Orlando to New York had 218 passengers on board. None of its passengers were injured.

CSX is on the scene making sure the lights and railroad crossing arms are working. FHP said the train is now back enroute to its destination. It was delayed for an hour and a half.

At this time, authorities haven't identified the man who died or the man who was injured.

The area has been blocked from the crash and will remain blocked while FHP investigates.
