When Doody Calls

HARTFORD, CT -- Some people hire someone to mow their lawn, others pay someone to plow their driveway.

Now a growing number of people are hiring someone to pick up after their pets.

The aptly named "Doody Calls" is cleaning up yards across Connecticut's Farmington Valley.

"We started the business two years ago. After a little bit of a slow start, once people got used to the concept, it started to expand rapidly," explained Doody Calls founder Paul Stansel.

Customers like Melissa Romanaux are using "Doody Calls" as a time saver.

"I didn't have the time to pick up after my dog so I gave them a shot and I've loved it ever since," she said.

Stansel and his employees come armed with a rake and a bucket with a bag.

They methodically make a grid pattern around the yard, triple bag the waste, throw it out and then sanitize their tools.

Stansel says he loves his job, but not every day is the easiest.

"We work straight through the winter. Chipping the frozen dog poop sometime isn't much fun, but it prevents a big cleanup in the spring," he chuckled.
