Man surrounds himself daily with Memorial reminders

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- For 21 years artifacts have come and gone from the DMZ Military Antique Store in St. Augustine.

This is Bill Parnell's tribute to the soldiers who've fought and died for our country.

"It's been my lifelong passion," he said. "A passion for the history."

Four names added to Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Wall

Every artifact in his store, from the uniforms, hardware and the weapons, saw action in an American war from the Revolution up to Vietnam.

"I get goosebumps just thinking about it," he said. "When you look around the room and think about how much of this stuff belonged to young men who will never grow old."

So being a veteran himself, while being surrounded by all this solemn history gives him a serious take on Memorial Day.

"It's not a day of celebration, it's a day of reflection, respect and honor," he said. "It's about remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms."
