"Perfect holiday gift for the book lover in your life," says Oprah.
Yes,
Ms. Winfrey is still making suggestions for our reading enjoyment. And
she has just announced her second pick of Oprah Book Club 2.0.
"I have found it. It has taken me awhile," she admits in a video on on her website.
It's The Twelve Tribes of Hattie by Ayana Mathis (Knopf).
"The
opening pages of Ayana's debut took my breath away," says Oprah. "I
can't remember when I read anything that moved me in quite this way,
besides the work of Toni Morrison."
In her debut novel, Mathis
tells the story of the children of the Great Migration through the
trials of one indomitable heroine (Hattie) and her unforgettable family.
The novel has earned starred pre-publication reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus and Booklist.
"I'm going to read it a second time along with everybody else," promises Oprah, calling it a "jewel of a book."
Look for Oprah's interview with Mathis in the January issue of O, The Oprah Magazine
(on sale today). Mathis shares her reaction upon receiving the Oprah
call that her book had been chosen. "Really?" asked Mathis in
disbelief, "This is really Oprah Winfrey?"
And mark your calendars for Feb. 3, when Oprah interviews Mathis on Super Soul Sunday (also Super Bowl Sunday) on OWN, OWN's Facebook page (facebook.com/owntv) and on Oprah Radio's Oprah's Soul Series (Sirius 204, XM 111).
