Kim Kardashian's battle to end her marriage to Kris Humphries has
stretched out well beyond the actual amount of time the couple was
married.
More than a year after their 72-day marriage died a most
unceremonious death, Kardashian and Humphries are still trying to make
the split official. Their lawyers went before a judge today in L.A.
where both sides argued that it was the other side's fault that the
matter was still tangled up in court and is heading for trial.
"Ms. Kardashian is now handcuffed to Kris Humphries," her lawyer Laura
Wasser said. "These delays are forcing her to be married. She wants to
dissolve her marriage so she can move on with her life. I don't think
(Kris) has a case, it's a fishing expedition."
Wasser added, "We want a trial because that's the only way this will end. There was no fraud."
Humphries'
side disagrees, though, alleging that the reality star's desire to
marry him was all for show -- literally, since Kardashian and her family
have a slew of unscripted shows on E!
The NBA player's counsel
claims that Kardashian "had no intent of being married" and that their
lavish August 2011 wedding was all "for the benefit of her TV show."
"All she has to do is agree to an annulment (based on fraud)," Humphries' attorney Marshall Waller said.
And,
in an effort to prove the allegedly fradulent nature of their
relationship, Humphries' team has deposed, among others, Kardashian's
mother Kris Jenner and her boyfriend, rapper Kanye West.
But
don't expect the drama to wrap up any time soon. If both sides can't
reach an agreement and settle, they'll be back in court on Feb. 15 for a
hearing to determine a possible trial date.
