JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- From back to school bashes to a tomato battle and some famous faces heading to the First Coast, here is a list of events going on this weekend.
SATURDAY AUGUST 18, 2012
FIGHT FOR AIR RUN/WALK 5k: The walk is Saturday at 7 a.m. at Metropolitan Park. Families, individuals and teams join together in a run/walk to raise awareness for the 35 million Americans who suffer from asthma. Be ready to rock out and run/walk to the retro music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Show your love of your favorite decade by dressing up to run back in time. There will also be a kids korner with a clown, face painting, and arts and crafts. It's $40 for adults and $20 for kids ages 5 to 12.
SUWANEE VALLEY FOOD JAM: Join in on two days of music and community Saturday along the banks of the famous Suwannee River at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. One hundred percent of net profits from the Flood Jam will be used to assist those affected by the devastating flooding brought on by Tropical Storm Debby. 3 stages and more than 25 artists perform, plus enjoy food and craft vendors. Tickets are $20 per day.
JACKSONVILLE FARMERS MARKET: Open every day of the year, dawn to dusk, save up to 70% or more on NE Florida's largest & fresh selection of local, ethnic, and specialty produce, agricultural and other food products. It's free to attend. The farmer's market runs this Saturday from 7 a.m. Through 7 p.m.
RIVERSIDE ARTS MARKET: The Riverside Arts Market is every Saturday from 10 a.m. To 4 p.m. off Riverside Avenue underneath the Fuller Warren Bridge. It features crafts, art, live entertainment and more!
FL.ROC RUNNING OBSTACLE CHALLENGE: The FL.ROC Running Obstacle Challenge, at Diamond D Training and Boarding Stable off Solomon Road, will prove to be an action-packed! Conquer a challenging 3.5 mile obstacle course filled with mud, sand, dirt and water while having fun! This event is a fundraiser for 26.2 with Donna. There is a mandatory pledge of $50 per participant that will go to 26.2 with Donna. It's all Saturday at 9 a.m. Breastcancermarathon.com has the details.
SHADCO SAFETY FAIR: The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is sponsoring the 15th Annual Avenues Shadco (Sheriff's Advisory Council) Safety Fair, Saturday, from 10 am to 2 pm. It's a free event that will be held at the Avenues Mall with dozens of safety exhibits and demonstrations. Representatives from Operation Safe Kids will be giving parents electronic fingerprints and photographs of their children, and there will be a child safety seat inspection from 10 am to 12 pm. McGruff the Crime Dog, Smokey the Bear, and many other children's characters will be there for the kids. Officers will also have police cars, helicopters and boats on display.
FCA JAX BASEBALL FALL TRYOUTS: FCA JAX Baseball is striving to make a positive impact in communities around the NE Florida area by training athletes and coaches. FCA Baseball fall tryouts will be held at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville (where the Jacksonville Suns play) on Saturday August 18th as follows: 9U at 9:00 am, 10U at 10:00 am, 11U at 11:00 am. ADOPTION AND PET WASH EVENT: Join Friends of Jacksonville Animals and First Coast No More Homeless Pets for a combo adoption and pet wash event Saturday at the Mandarin Pet Supermarket off San Jose Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A $10 donation is requested per dog bath.
BACK TO SCHOOL BASH AT JACKSONVILLE ICE & SPORTSPLEX: FREE Hockey & Learn to Skate Clinics are set for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sports Activities, Games, Bounce Houses, Live Appearance with Wape & Other Family Fun Activities. Hockey clinics are from 8 to 9 a.m. Skate clinics are at 10, 11, and 12.

JACKSONVILLE JAYCEES PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT: The 3rd Annual Photo Scavenger Hunt for ages 21 and up is hosted by Whisky River and benefits the Jacksonville Jaycees, a young professional organization based around community service, individual development and leadership. FLORIDA TOMATO BATTLE: More then 300,000 tomatoes and thousands of people to throw them at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center Saturday at 12 p.m. There will also be live music and beer for those 21 and up.
DUSTIN "SCREECH" DIAMOND AT LATITUDE 30: Dustin Diamond, one of the stars of Saved by the Bell, will be performing stand-up at Latitude 30 Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are available to anyone 21 or older for $20.
