JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It's officially summer and though we might see rain, there are still plenty of inside events to kick start the new season.

Below is a list of this weekend's events.

SATURDAY

JACKSONVILLE TRIATHLON OLYMPIC & SPRINT SERIES: The Jacksonville Olympic & Sprint Triathlon Series consists of three events in Fernandina Beach, FL. Beginning with the swim in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean, followed by a bike course on the flat and fast road of the scenic A1A road and ending with a run through the shaded road of Fort Clinch State Park. The series is a great race for both the new and experienced tri-athlete. The race starts at 7:30 a.m. Registration cost varies. drcsports.com

COMMUNITY SHRED EVENT: Shredding Source is partnering with AAA to hold a free community shred event. A Mobile Shred truck will be located in the Parking Lot. Limit 50 Boxes per vehicle (10 boxes will be shred onsite and any remaining may be taken back to the facility to be shred). The event is at the AA office in Ponte Vedra Beach from 10 a.m. to noon.

FREE RACE DAY - JACKSONVILLE BMX: The United States Olympic Committee, USA BMX and USA Cycling have joined forces to celebrate this year's Olympic Day (June 23rd)! The goal of Olympic Day is to promote Olympic values and participation in sports across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. You can race the Jacksonville course for FREE from 5 to 7 pm on Saturday. Head to jacksonvillebmx.com for details on how to register.

NANNY DAISY STORYTIME: Free Children's Storytime with Nanny Daisy presented by Rent-A-Nanny. Enjoy stories, music, goodie bags and more at 10 a.m. at Books-A-Million Marsh Landing.

RIVERSIDE ARTS MARKET: The Riverside Arts Market is every Saturday from 10 a.m. To 4 p.m. off Riverside Avenue underneath the Fuller Warren Bridge. It features crafts, art, live entertainment and more!

"TEE-IT-UP FOR THE HOLM TEAM - MARY HOLM BENEFIT GOLF TOURNAMENT": Join in to "TEE-IT-UP for the HOLM Team" and raise money for the Holm family at the Mary Holm Benefit Golf Tournament. Mary Holm, devoted wife and mother of three small children was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer. The proceeds from this event will go to aiding the Holm family with the medical and other expenses associated with Mary Holm's BATTLE against Cancer. The event starts at noon at Cimarrone Golf Club.

SWEET PETE'S FREE CHOCOLATE & READING EVENT: Join Sweet Pete's and author, Angela Atkins for a sweet dog day. Enjoy a reading of Angela's book. " I Don't Like Dogs but They Love Me" and make a chocolate dog lollipop! Classes start at 1 p.m. and are free to attend. 10% of sales during the event will be donated to Wolfson Children's Hospital Pet Therapy Program.

THE SPECKTACLE FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS: The Specktacle for Special Olympics combines live entertainment (including performances by American Idol contestant AJ Neaher and Mad Cowford Improv), a live auction of one-of-a-kind celebrity experiences and plenty of surprises, not to mention, beer, wine, hors d'oeuvres and prizes! Put on by Jacksonville Magazine's Kerry Speckman and hosted by First Coast News' own Lewis Turner, the Specktacle takes place at 927 events Saturday at 6 p.m. and tickets are $25.

HISTORIC SPRINGFIELD MAIN STREET CRUISE: Some long time Jacksonville residents are breaking out the fuzzy dice and going cruising and they're inviting everyone to come along for the Historic Springfield Main Street Cruise Saturday night. Free Krystals burgers and a makeshift drive-in movie theatre are part of the fun. It's a free event that runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. off 1st through 12th Streets on Main.

DUVAL FORD'S 2ND ANNUAL CHARITY FATHER DAUGHTER BALL: On Saturday June 23rd at the University Club at 6 p.m., Duval Ford will host the second annual Father-Daughter Dance. All the proceeds go to the Florida Chapter ALS Association. Come and enjoy a night full of dances, laughs, and memories complete with refreshments, music and photographs that will last for a lifetime while benefiting the community. Ticket prices are $125 per double and $44 per additional person.

CATTY SHACK RANCH: Enjoy a stroll through the sanctuary at 6 p.m. Saturday to meet all the residents (Siberian tigers, lions, cougars, spotted and black leopards, and two arctic foxes) of the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary plus watch them eat!

JACKSONVILLE SUNS: The Jacksonville Suns are taking on Tennessee at the stadium downtown on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. and Sunday at 3:05 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE SHARKS: The Jacksonville Sharks take on the Cleveland Gladiators at the Veterans Memorial Arena starting at 7 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE LANDING: It's a party with LIVE music by Steve McDonald at the Jacksonville Landing courtyard from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

SUNDRESS AND BOOTS PARTY AT MAVERICKS: Ladies wearing a sundress and boots get into Mavericks at the Landing for free all night.

 

SUNDAY

5TH ANNUAL "FUN IN THE SUN BASIC SKILLS COMPETITION": Watch local "Basic Skills" figure skaters compete in the 5th Annual Fun in the Sun Basic Skills Competition at Jacksonville Ice & Sportsplex. Entry is Free to watch. The competition starts at 11 a.m.

OLD CITY SCRABBLERS - SCRABBLE GAME: The Old City Scrabblers host bi-weekly Scrabble games in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. The group plays regular and Super Scrabble but primarily offer Super Scrabble games. Boards and dictionaries are provided. All levels of players from beginners through experienced are welcome. There is no charge for our games and membership in the YMCA is not required. Players may bring snacks and beverages - coffee is available. Note that the YMCA does not open until 1 p.m. on Sundays so no need to arrive early. The scrabble fun runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

WATERWAY WILDLIFE: Learn more about the diverse wildlife found in, above, and along the St. Johns River with possible sightings. Meet at the Nature Center at Huguenot Park at 2 p.m.

GOOD FORM RUNNING CLINIC: Join 1st Place Sports off Baymeadows Road for a running clinic to help you become a faster and more efficient runner. The clinic is free, but is limited to twenty runners per class. This class is Sunday at 6 p.m.

SWEETWATER PRESENTS RAILROAD EARTH: SweetWater Brewery presents their first-ever concert series featuring bluegrass band Railroad Earth to benefit local Waterkeepers and their efforts to conserve waterways throughout the Southeast. The show, which starts at 7 p.m., is open to all ages. Tickets start at $23 and are available at freebirdlive.com.
