JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Hundreds of children in the Jacksonville area often go without birthday cakes because their families are homeless or victims of domestic violence.
Now our Hero Baker project is growing as volunteers discover the fun of baking birthday cakes for children at United Way Community Connection Centers.

What an opportunity to develop self-esteem in children whose lives are splintered right now. The birthday parties are not just fun, they are ways to show the children their lives do matter to others.
If you want to bake, you can email Jeannie Blaylock. Hero Bakers are especially needed for the Northside.
We also need volunteers to make party grab bags. The gifts inside can be small items from a dollar store. Email Jeannie if you can help with that.
Hero Central is our project with the United Way to connect people so we can all help each other.
