E-mail JuliaJulia Crowley joined the First Coast News staff in September as the First Coast Trends reporter. You may often see Julia out and about searching for the newest & hottest item or activity. Each week she highlights a craze or hidden gem just waiting to be discovered and used by everyone on the first coast.
You can also see her reporting on area traffic conditions in the morning hours. Beginning at 6 a.m. many mornings Julia alerts commuters to any problems on the roadway. And she also steps behind the camera to produce First Coast News at Noon.
In August of 2005 Julia moved cross-country from California. Julia grew up on the West Coast, spending most of her time in California and Nevada. Before moving to Jacksonville, she spent nearly 2 years as a traffic reporter for the NBC and WB stations in Sacramento. Julia is a self-proclaimed "traffic geek". While at KCRA & WB-58 Julia created and maintained the Central California traffic center for a specialized traffic company called Traffic Pulse.
Before becoming a "traffic geek" Julia worked at another station in California's capitol city. There she produced several newscasts and oversaw all election coverage. Following another passion in the newsroom, Julia helped cover many big political events including the 2004 Presidential Election and California Governor Recall.
Julia remembers fondly working as a reporter intern in Washington, DC during the 2000 Presidential election. She worked for Tribune Broadcasting, only a few blocks away from the White House while George W. Bush and Al Gore battled it out.
Julia earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Broadcast Studies and Journalism at Gonzaga University. It's a small Jesuit college in Spokane, Washington. While there, the basketballteam became a force in the NCAA Basketball Tournament, making her a big college basketball fan.
Julia moved to Jacksonville to be with her husband, Rick Crowley. The two married on July 9, 2005 in Sacramento, CA. Julia planned the entire event herself, inviting only 250 of their closest friends and family. Although Julia is new to Jacksonville, her husband Rick has lived here for 8 years.
The pair had a long-distance relationship for about 2 years before Julia finally decided to move to sunny Florida. Now she spends her free time at the beach and listening to the music of her favorite local band "Quiet Time".
