Victor Blackwell is anchor of the weekend editions of First Coast News at 6, 630 and 11. He is also co-anchor of Good Morning Jacksonville Saturday and reports for other broadcasts.
He is an Emmy-nominated journalist who began his career as a staff writer for the Community Times newspaper in Columbia, MD. Victor worked as a producer with Radio11 WBAL in Baltimore and as a co-producer with WHUT-TV in Washington DC. He also worked with WPMT-TV in York, PA and most recently as a Reporter/Anchor with WHAG-TV in Hagerstown, MD.
While in Hagerstown, Victor broke the story of Holly Place, a low-income senior home that was slated to close because of a state funding gap. In the weeks following his story, state and community organizations raised enough money to keep the home open. Holly Place's managers credit Victor's reporting with saving dozens of seniors from the streets.
Victor's reporting has been recognized by the Associated Press and the Society for Professional Journalists. His investigation of the Stop Snitchin' phenomenon earned Victor an Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio, Television and News Directors Association.
Victor earned a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He is also a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
When he's not working for First Coast News, Victor is often working with local community groups and charities. He also spends time talking about health and childhood obesity. After a lifetime struggle with his weight, Victor lost more than 100 pounds in 2007 - after undergoing Laparoscopic Gastric Banding Surgery.
In his personal time, Victor enjoys reading, exercising and shopping at estate sales.
