Fourth of July festivities take over Downtown Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- No Independence Day is complete without a top of the line fireworks shows and the city of Jacksonville wasn't joking when they said they were going to light up the sky.

"It's a nice experience, the colors and all the excitement people get out of it," said Meloney Fullmore, from New York.

The party was postponed temporarily while showers drenched Downtown Jacksonville in the early evening.

Rainy weather caused some like the Duffy's from Gainesville to change their plans from Jax Beach to Downtown, but once they got to the party dressed in the full star-spangled spirit, they didn't seem to mind.

"I like the vibe, just all the American people getting together and having a good time. That's what it's about," said Broderick Duffy.

Once the storm moved through, Joyce Thompson from Springfield and her twin toddlers moved out to the stage to hear some live music.

"We thought we'd come out here and do some dancing, we were out here last year and had a good time," said Thompson.

Drinks, food, and music brought Joe Warr to The Jacksonville Landing

"My first time in Jacksonville and this is nice," said Warr.

And some stopped by just for the fireworks.

"We're going on to vacation to Hilton Head and we just decided to stop and see the fireworks," said Nick Stoddard from Tampa.

The light show also brought Angie Rodriguez and her 2-year-old up to Jax from Lake City.

"This is the closest thing to actually having good fireworks," she said.

So kudos to Jacksonville and Happy Fourth of July!
