Jacksonville's 'hidden gem' hosts open house Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Gem and Mineral Society is hosting a free open house Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at their facility on Powers Avenue.

The non-profit group's primary goal is education in rock collecting and identification, fossils and jewelry making, according to president elect Darlene Gunsolus.

At their workshop people can use their tools and machines to make jewelry if they'd like to get hands on, or get some pointers on various local rocks and minerals.

They are located at 6653 Powers Avenue, Suite 132 in Jacksonville.
